About this product

Welding Technology 10
Destructive testing of welds

(Please note: This title is only available in German!)

The strength and durability of welds are often of crucial importance and, depending on the application, must also be tested for contractual/legal reasons. If non-destructive testing of welded joints is not required, a destructive testing method can be used. Various methods are available, although the test methods differ in their applicability for different materials and conditions, as well as in their complexity and accuracy. In their standards and technical rules DIN and DVS provide the knowledge and specifications for the application of destructive methods for testing welds.

This collection of standards contains a list of common destructive test methods, including in particular the following:

  • Transverse and longitudinal tensile tests, fracture and bending tests
  • Hardness tests
  • Determination of quasistatic fracture toughness of welds
  • Hot and cold crack testing
  • Examination of fractured ends

Standards for non-destructive testing can be found in the DIN Handbook series 56 in the field of materials testing.

A tried and tested collection of standards with numerous amendments

A number of changes have been made to the 4th edition of DIN/DVS handbook 369 which have led to a new edition of this popular and proven collection of documents. The 5th edition of “Schweißtechnik 10” is once again a compendium of knowledge for training and practice which reflects the current state of knowledge, standardisation and technology.

The following changes are particularly relevant:

  • 1 standard and 1 DVS Merkblatt have been added
With DIN EN ISO 22826, this book now also contains a standard for hardness tests on welds that are welded using the innovative laser or electron beam process. The new DVS 0718-1 also contains the specifications for sample production, testing and assessment of fracture surfaces on fusion-welded joints

  • 8 amended documents
Six DIN standards and two DVS Merkblätter - more than a third of the documents contained have been updated since the publication of the previous edition. Importantly, there have been changes made to core standards in the field, such as DIN EN ISO 4136, DIN EN ISO 5173 and DIN EN ISO 17639. The updates range from editorial revisions to significant content additions or replacements.
