In contrast to the contact voltage detectors in accordance with DIN VDE 0682-411 (VDE 0682-411) to be set up on the tested installation components and which possess in the scope of application of high voltage overhead lines with nominal voltages of 110 kV and beyond long insulating poles, distance voltage detectors shall be used advantageously as they are light and easy to handle. Clear indication is dependent on the influence of electric fields at the place of application. Distance voltage detectors should therefore be specially measured for the mast and insulation type for which they are to be used. This can, however, lead to the conclusion that distance voltage detectors are only useable for certain types of masts and insulators. This preliminary standard is applicable for distance voltage detectors for determination of voltage in accordance with DIN VDE 0105 100 (VDE 0105-100) without contact with components under voltage for use on overhead lines masts in a specified distance to the voltage-conducting components - at nominal voltages of 110 kV to 420 kV; at nominal frequencies of 16,7 Hz or 50 Hz to 60 Hz. The specifications are also applicable for the use of distance voltage detectors during precipitation. Other types of distance voltage detectors are not covered by this standard.
