This standard applies to enclosures with connecting terminals for casting, which remain accessible for the purpose of retrofitting. Under certain environmental conditions condensed water may occur and liquids might penetrate which may lead to insulation faults at the connecting terminals contained within and thus to failure of the circuit. Introduction of the casting compound into such enclosures shall encapsulate clamping units to prevent insulation faults and to fill the enclosure volume so that formation of condensed water and penetration of liquids are reliably excluded. The responsible committee is UK 543.4 "Verlegungs- und Verbindungsmaterial" ("Connecting and wiring material") of the DKE (German Commission for Electrical, Electronic and Information Technologies) at DIN and VDE.
