Overview

This document establishes a system for estimating, measuring, analysing and reporting the tidal current energy resource in oceanic areas including estuaries (to the limit of tidal influence) that are potentially suitable for the installation of TECs. This system is intended to be applied at various stages of project lifecycle from initial investigations to detailed design. It should provide suitably accurate estimates of the tidal resource to enable the annual energy production to be calculated in conjunction with the IEC's "Power Performance Assessment of Electricity Producing Tidal Energy Converters" Technical Specification (62600-200). The committee responsible is GK 385 "Meeresenergie-, Meeresströmungs-, Wellen- und Gezeiten-Kraftwerke" ("Marine energy - Wave and tidal energy converters") of the DKE (German Commission for Electrical, Electronic and Information Technologies) at DIN and VDE.
