Overview

The methods described in this Technical Specification can be used to measure the wettability of the shield and shield sheath material of composite insulators for overhead lines, switchgear and equipment or for ceramic insulators with or without coating. The measured value represents the wettability value at the time of measurement. The purpose of this standard is to describe three methods that can be used to determine the wettability of insulators. Determining the ability of water to wet the surface of insulators can be useful in evaluating the surface condition of insulators in service, or as part of insulator testing in the laboratory. The responsible committee is DKE/K 451 "Isolatoren" ("Insulators") of the DKE (German Commission for Electrical, Electronic and Information Technologies) at DIN and VDE.
