Overview

This pre-standard applies to capacitors according to DIN EN 60871-1 (VDE 0560-410) and specifies the requirements for ageing tests of these capacitors. The ageing test is a type test which is carried out to ensure that progressive ageing due to voltage overloads at elevated temperatures does not cause premature failure of the dielectric. One remedy is to select the correct base material and avoid rapid ageing. Testing should not be regarded as a means of accurately assessing the service life of a dielectric. The responsible committee is DKE/K 341 "Leistungskondensatoren" ("Power capacitors") of the DKE (German Commission for Electrical, Electronic and Information Technologies) at DIN and VDE.
