Overview

Unwanted alarms have become a significant problem for authorities across Europe. A significant proportion of these are attributed to "operator error" during entry and exit from the monitored area. Recommendations are therefore given on the selection of procedures for arming and disarming an Intrusion Alarm System (IAS) which will minimize such errors. This Technical Specification provides recommendations for those methods of setting and unsetting an Intrusion Alarm System (IAS) complying with EN 50131-1 that will reduce unwanted alarms arising from "operator error" in setting and unsetting the IAS and provide confidence that the conditions in which the system is installed are conducive to system reliability during the "set" period. The responsible committee is UK 713.1 "Gefahrenmelde- und Überwachungsanlagen" ("Alarm and surveillance systems") of the DKE (German Commission for Electrical, Electronic and Information Technologies) at DIN and VDE.
