This document (CEN/TS 15968:2010) has been prepared by Technical Committee CEN/TC 382 "PFOS", the secretariat of which is held by NEN (Netherlands). The responsible national committee is NA 062-08-33 AA, Mirror Committee to CEN/TC 382 "PFOS" at the Materials Testing Standards Committee (NMP). According to the Pre-standard procedure of Deutsches Normenwerk ("German body of standards") a European Technical Specification (CEN/TS) has the same status like a DIN SPEC. A preliminary standard is the result of standardization work which DIN has not yet published as a standard due to certain reservations regarding the content or when it has not been drawn up strictly according to the official standards development process. No draft has been published for the present standard. Experience with this preliminary standard is requested by the standard committee - preferably as a file per email to nmp@din.de in tabular form. The template for this table can be obtained on the Internet at http://www.din.de/stellungnahme; - or in paper form from the Materials Testing Standards Committee (NMP). This standard describes the determination of perfluorooctanesulfonate (PFOS) in concentrated extracts from coated or impregnated solid articles, liquids and fire fighting foams using high performance liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (LC-tandem/MS) or quadropole mass spectrometry (LC-qMS). The method is applicable to concentrations of PFOS in the extract solution in the range between 0,5 µg/l and 50 µg/l. WARNING - The users of this Technical Specification should be familiar with the common laboratory practice. This Technical Specification does not purport to address all the safety problems, if any, associated with its use. It is the responsibility of the user to establish appropriate safety and health practices and to assure their conformity with all national legal provisions. IMPORTANT - It is essential that testing according to this Technical Specification is performed by appropriately qualified persons. The analytes listed in Table 1 are determined after they have been extracted with methanol by liquid chromatography with tandem mass spectrometry detection (LC-tandem/MS) or liquid chromatography with mass spectrometry detection (LC-qMS). The list of analytes is not complete in regards to all possible PFOS derivates.
