Dr. Essig ist seit 1998 Gesellschafter und Geschäftsführer der SCHOLZE-LAVA Consulting GmbH. Diese bietet Beratung im Bereich Informationsmanagement, Facility Management und Nachhaltigkeitszertifizierung. Zudem arbeitet er in der Planung Technischer Gebäudeausrüstung (HKLS GA). Sein Studium des Maschinenwesens absolvierte er an der Universität Stuttgart mit den Schwerpunkten Energiesysteme zur Technischen Gebäudeausrüstung und Automatisierungstechnik. Seine Promotion schrieb Dr. Essig im Bereich Dokumentation und Engineering von digitalen Leitsystemen. Zudem ist er Autor des Buches „BIM und TGA“ und Leiter nationaler und internationaler Normungsgremien zur Referenzkennzeichnung.
