Short description
In addition to fulfilling additional requirements, e. g. those of the system hydraulics, thermal storage systems are primarily used to balance the differences in output and time between generation and demand. Thermal storage tanks therefore play an important role in load management. In building services engineering, the building masses and the distribution system (heating/cooling surfaces, piping, etc.) also act indirectly as thermal stores, but they cannot be used specifically as thermal stores. It is therefore important to select and dimension the storage technology and design, load management, integration into the system technology and storage size accordingly in order to meet the specified requirements. For the sake of simplicity, this standard focuses on the heat that can be absorbed or released. The planning process is described, with which the selection and dimensioning of storage tanks for sensible and latent heat can be carried out. The explanations refer to thermal energy storage in heating and cooling applications.
