Short description
With the weather radar described in this standard, the spatial distribution of precipitation can be observed for a large area around the radar site. The weather radar is thus an essential instrument for the areal detection of precipitation. One popular qualitative application is the real-time display of precipitation areas and the distribution of these displays, e. g. on various internet portals that are accessible to the general public. Numerous professionals use the data obtained by the radar network and, where necessary, also of supplementary special radar stations, to detect the areal precipitation. This standard describes ground-based weather radar systems with wavelengths between 3 cm and 10 cm. These radar systems are suitable for the area-wide detection of precipitation and other targets up to a height of several 1000 m above ground.
