Short description
The drums are essential components of a belt conveyor with different functions. They are exposed to high permanent loads and not only represent a considerable investment value, but also have a decisive influence on the operational safety of an entire conveyor system. Both the task (property to be conveyed, flow of conveyed material, transport route, etc.) and the selected design data of the system, such as conveying speed, belt guide, belt width and belt trough, have an influence on the selection and design of the drums. The calculation and design of a belt conveyor for bulk goods is carried out according to DIN 22101 on the basis of specified data such as the properties of the goods to be conveyed, mass flow, conveying length, conveying height and other parameters. This also results in the required minimum drum diameter and the drum shell length due to the selected belt assembly and the belt width. The standard describes the currently common types of drums for belt conveyors and their most important design details and presents essential aspects for the design and manufacture.
