Short description
This standard applies to processes in which wood-based materials and other substrates are coated using thermally reactivable adhesives and functional layers. When heat is applied, the adhesives or functional layers melt and/or soften. This thermoplastic behavior, which is exploited for bonding, can also become more thermoset through crosslinking after joining. In places, the illustrations can also be transferred to the application of pressure-sensitive adhesives. The standard shows how these processes are structured and how they work and lists quality criteria for the process results. It describes how the quality criteria are determined, but also how the processes can be optimized. It always summarizes the state of the art and provides information and application recommendations. In addition to the decorative requirements, which do not follow any technologically measurable requirements, the series of standards VDI 3412 describes the requirements for the coating materials, the adhesives and the substrates. In addition, possible process windows are presented that provide users with starting points for the development of stable processes, from the craft sector to industrial systems.
