This draft of guideline VDI 2058 Sheet 3 has been prepared in the Acoustics, Noise Control and Vibration Engineering Standards Committee (NALS) at DIN and VDI by Working Group NA 001-01-02-04 AK "Überarbeitung VDE 2058 Blatt 3" ("Revision of VDI 2058 Sheet 3") on behalf of Working Committee NA 001-01-02 AA "Geräuschemission - Grundlagen, Ermittlung, Beurteilung" ("Noise immission - Principles, determination, rating"). Exposure to noise in the working area is dependent on the noise radiation of the sound sources and on the propagation conditions. Depending on the demands and stress a working human being is subject to, noise may more or less impair his health, his efficiency and his safety at work. The term "health" in VDI 2058 Sheet 3 not only means the absence of diseases but also includes physical and mental well-being. The guideline has been prepared in order to point out the numerous influencing parameters and the effects known so far. This guideline is intended to allow the assessment of noise immissions at the work station, taking various activities into account. For this purpose, the guideline allocates job characteristics, types of demands and types of stress to three sound levels and lists exemplary activities for the reader's reference. Independent of the scope of the Working Place Ordinance, this guideline allows the drawing of comparable conclusions for all other working stations. This guideline deals exclusively with audible sound, meaning sound in the frequency range between 16 Hz to 16 kHz. The noise immission is assessed by means of the rating level which is to be determined according to DIN 45645-2. If applicable, additional acoustic parameters and factors of influence shall be observed. In an individual case, due to individual situations or special requirements, it may be necessary to separately analyse and assess the activities with their respective demands and stresses, taking into account the particular job.
