Ball eyes according to this standard are used preferably for overhead electrical lines and switchgears and controlgears with nominal system voltages exceeding AC 1 kV and DC 1,5 kV. Types A and B are mainly used in systems up to and including 45 kV and types C to F are mainly used in systems exceeding 45 kV. Forms A to D are preferably intended for fastening with U-bolts and forms E and F for fastening with connecting bolts. The standard differs from DIN 48065-1:1980-10, DIN 48065-2:1980-10 and DIN 48065-3:1980-10 as follows: a) the three parts of the standard have been combined; b) marking, requirements, tests, hot-dip galvanizing and references have been updated, including the omission of the "I" marking for IEC; c) the nominal ball eye dimension of 11 mm has been deleted for forms C, D, E and F; d) a non-destructive test has been introduced for each component; e) The unit weights have been omitted. The responsible committee is DKE/K 421 "Freileitungen" ("Overhead lines") of the DKE (German Commission for Electrical, Electronic and Information Technologies) at DIN and VDE.
This document replaces DIN 48065-1:1980-10 , DIN 48065-2:1980-10 , DIN 48065-3:1980-10 .
