This International Standard deals with the determination of those technical characteristics needed to describe all aspects of the performance of jet fans as defined in ISO 13349. The main technical change is the inclusion of a new procedure for determining efficiency based on thrust. The procedure is described in the new normative Annex D "Efficiency based on thrust measurement". Numerous references to ISO 5801:2007 have also been updated. It does not cover those fans designed for ducted applications or those designed solely for air circulation, such as ceiling fans and table fans. The test procedures described in this International Standard relate to laboratory conditions. The measurement of performance under on-site conditions is not included. The use of the so-called jet fan to assist in the control of quality of air in vehicle and train tunnels has become increasingly popular. This standard contains the German version of EN ISO 13350:2015 prepared by Technical Committee ISO/TC 117 "Fans" in collaboration with Technical Committee CEN/TC 156 "Ventilation of buildings" of the European Committee for Standardization (CEN). This standard differs from DIN EN ISO 13350:2010-12 as follows: a) General (dated references on standards have been updated throughout the text, for example ISO 5801:2007; b) Clause 2 "Normative references" has been supplemented and updated; c) in Clause 3 "Terms and definitions", 3.2.1 "gross fan outlet area", 3.5.1 "motor input power", 3.5.2 "impeller power" and 3.8.2 "thrust/motor input power ratio" have been added; d) Figure 1 "Gross and effective fan outlet areas" has been modified by marking of the "gross fan outlet area A2"; e) Clause 4 "Symbols and abbreviated terms" has been supplemented and updated; f) in Subclause 6.4 "Input power", a correction regarding the density has been made; g) in Subclause 7.1 "Determination of thrust", a correction regarding the density has been made; h) in Subclause 7.4 "Test procedures", the recommended calibration intervals have been changed; i) Figure 7 "Thrust measuring enclosure" has been modified by reducing the minimum distance between fan casing and floor/ceiling/wall; j) in Subclause 8.1 "Determination of sound level", the possibility to use other International Standards, for example ISO 13347, has been introduced; k) in Subclause 8.3 "Enclosure suitability", the requirement for the running speed of the reference sound source has been deleted; l) in Subclause 9.2 "Test arrangement" for determination of vibration velocity, Figure 9 "Vibration measuring position for jet fans" and the requirement to use this configuration have been deleted; m) Figure 9 has been deleted; n) Subclause 9.3 "Test procedure" now includes a general reference to ISO 14695; o) in Subclause 10.2 "Upstream chamber method", "venturi nozzle" has been replaced by "bellmouth"; p) in Subclause 10.2 "Directly connected flowrate-measuring","venturi nozzle" has been replaced by "bellmouth"; q) in Subclause 11.2 "Product performance", a reference to the density 1,2 kg/m3 has been added; r) the title of Annex C (informative) has been changed from "Conversion rules" to "Non-dimensional coefficients"; s) in Annex C (informative), several characters have been changed; t) in Annex C (informative), a subclause on "Non-dimensional thrust/power ratio" has been added; u) a new normative Annex D "Efficiency based on thrust measurements" has been included. The national interests during the preparation were represented by committee NA 060-09-11 AA "SpA CEN/TC 156/WG 7" and "ISO/TC 117" of Technical Section "Allgemeine Lufttechnik" ("General ventilation technology") at DIN Standards Committee Mechanical Engineering (NAM). Representatives of manufacturers and users of fans, and of research and testing institutes contributed to this standard.
