This International Standard specifies the performance requirements for electronic control gear for connection to DC and/or AC power supplies up to 1 000 V at 50 Hz or 60 Hz for discharge lamps complying with IEC 61167 for low frequency square wave operation in which the frequency range of the low frequency is between 70 Hz and 400 Hz. Tests in this standard are type tests. Requirements for production testing of individual control gear are not included. There are provisions in regional standards for mains harmonics and immunity of end products such as luminaires and independent control gear. In a luminaire, the control gear is critical in this regard. Control gear, along with other components, should comply with these standards. In order to obtain satisfactory operation of discharge lamps on electronic control gear, it is necessary that certain characteristics of their design are properly matched. It is therefore essential that specifications for them be given in the form of measurements, based on a common reference that is durable and reproducible. The responsible committee is DKE/UK 521.3 "Geräte für Lampen" ("Auxiliaries for lamps") of the DKE (German Commission for Electrical, Electronic and Information Technologies) at DIN and VDE.
