IEC 62379 specifies a protocol for the management of networked audio and video products as a common control interface. It includes the following parts: 1. General 2. Audio 3. Video 4. Data 5. Transmission over networks 6. Packet transfer service 7. Measurements for EBU ECN-IPM. Part 1 specifies aspects common to all devices. Parts 2 through 4 define the control of specific internal functions for equipment that transmits specific types of live media. Part 4 does not refer to packet data, such as the control messages themselves. Part 3 specifies such aspects as are specific to video devices. Part 5 specifies the control of the transmission of these media over each individual network technology. It includes network-specific management functions along with network-specific controls that integrate with the control framework. Part 6 specifies the passage of control and status messages and non-audio data over transport paths that do not support audio and video, such as RS-232 serial connectivity, with (just as with Part 5) a separate subpart for each technology. Part 7 specifies such aspects that are specific to the measurement requirements of the EBU ECN-IPM Group. An introduction to the common control interface is presented in IEC 62379-1. The responsible committee is DKE/K 742 "Audio-, Video- und Multimediasysteme" ("Audio, video and multimedia systems") of the DKE (German Commission for Electrical, Electronic and Information Technologies) at DIN and VDE.
