This part of IEC 62149 covers the performance standard for 1 300 nm fibre optic transceiver modules used for the ISO/IEC 8802-3 Gigabit Ethernet applications. The standard contains the specified product performance requirements together with a set of tests and measurements with clearly defined conditions, severities, and pass/fail criteria. The tests are intended to be run on a "once-off" basis to ensure the product's ability to meet the performance standard's requirements. The purpose of this document is the adequate description of the physical requirements for a fibre optic transceiver module to allow mechanical interchangeability of transceiver modules which comply with this standard. The standard is intended to ensure interoperability between the components of different manufacturers and provides designers and manufacturers with security on issues relating to the definition of the operating environments and tests. The standard refers to test standards for semiconductor devices of the IEC 60794, IEC 61300 and IEC 60068 series. The responsible Committee is Subcommittee UK 412.2 "Komponenten für Kommunikationskabelanlagen" ("Components for communication cabling systems") of the DKE (German Commission for Electrical, Electronic and Information Technologies) at DIN and VDE.
