This part of IEC 61755, Part 3-31 is a product standard and determines the dimensional limits of an angled PC rectangular polyphenylene sulphide (PPS) ferrule optical interface in order to meet specific requirements for fibre-to-fibre interconnections to establish mechanical compatibility between connectors of the same type but from different fabrications. Thus, the standard provides investment security for manufacturers and users and gives test laboratories and manufacturers defined specifications for testing. Ferrules made from the material specified in this standard are suitable for use in categories C, U, E, and O as defined in IEC 61753-1. Ferrules of this type with 2 to 12 fibres are used in modern multi-fibre connectors, such as those found in data centres, central offices or other areas where high fibre counts have to be shunted. This includes connectors according to IEC 61754-7-1 and IEC 61754-7-2 (MPO / MTP). The series of standards is applied together with the standards of the 61754 series (fibre optic connectors) and supplemented by the standards of the 61300 series (basic test and measurement methods). The standards of the 50377 series (product standards) also reference the standards of the 61755, 61754 and 61300 series. The responsible committee is DKE/UK 412.7 "LWL-Verbindungstechnik und passive optische Komponenten" ("Fibre optic interconnecting devices and passive optical components") of the DKE (German Commission for Electrical, Electronic and Information Technologies) at DIN and VDE.
