Overview

This part of IEC 61754 is a family specification and describes type SC-RJ connector family. The standard contains the dimensions and tolerances of the mentioned connector family and specifies the mechanical interoperability of identical connectors, couplings and sockets. Thus, the standard provides manufacturers and users with investment security and test laboratories and manufacturers with detailed information on testing. SC-RJ is an important connector for industrial automation and the so-called Industrial Ethernet. Its advantage is the compact type of construction and the fact that the coupling fits into the same geometry of the cut out like the known copper connector RJ45. Thus, protective housings which are identical in construction can be used. The standard describes various versions of connectors for silica glass fibres, PCF- and POF-fibre optic cables and their colour and mechanical coding. The standard series is applied together with the 61755 (Optical interface) standard series and is supplemented by the 61300 (Basic test and measurement procedures) standard series. The 50377 (Product standards) standard series also refer to the 61754, 61755 and 61300 standard series. The responsible Committee is Subcommittee UK 412.7 "LWL-Verbindungstechnik und passive optische Komponenten" ("Fibre optic interconnecting devices and passive optical components") of the DKE (German Commission for Electrical, Electronic and Information Technologies) at DIN and VDE.
