This part of IEC 61754 covers connectors with protective housings. This housing is defined as variant 4 in IEC 61076-3-106:2006. These connectors use a push-pull coupling mechanism. To connect the fibres inside the housing the LC interface is used as described in IEC 61754-20:2002. The fully assembled variants (connectors) described in this document incorporate fixed and free connectors. The LC connector is currently one of the most important connectors in fibre optics. It is used in all fields of fibre optic cabling. It is specified as the standard connector for fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) cabling (VDE-AR-E 2800-901). This connector provided with an additional protective housing can be found both in computer centres as well as in industry (series DIN EN 50173). The standard is directed at manufacturers, testing institutes, assemblers and users. The standards are supplemented with the standards of the standard series DIN EN 61753 (performance) and DIN EN 61755 (Optical interface). The responsible committee is Subcommittee DKE/UK 412.7 "LWL-Verbindungstechnik und passive optische Komponenten" ("Fibre optic interconnecting devices and passive optical components") of the DKE (German Commission for Electrical, Electronic and Information Technologies) at DIN and VDE.
