This part of IEC 61753 contains the minimum initial performance, test and measurement requirements and severities which a fibre optic pigtailed 1 310 nm upstream and 1 490 nm downstream wide wavelength division multiplexing (WWDM) passive optical network (PON) device must satisfy in order to be categorized as meeting the requirements of category O - uncontrolled environments - as defined in Annex A of IEC 61753-1. The standard provides manufacturers, customers and testing facilities with security in the definition and serves as a reference for quality assurance. The relevant requirements for mechanical and optical connector pluggability are covered by the mechanical and optic interface standards of the IEC 61754 and IEC 61755 series. The relevant requirements for the performance of connector sets are covered by IEC 61753. The standard refers to test standards of the IEC 61300 series. The responsible committee is DKE/UK 412.7 "LWL-Verbindungstechnik und passive optische Komponenten" ("Fibre optic interconnecting devices and passive optical components") of the DKE (German Commission for Electrical, Electronic and Information Technologies) at DIN and VDE.
