This part of IEC 61300 specifies a method to measure the switching time and related performance parameters of a fibre optic spatial switch when the actuation energy is applied or removed to change the state of the switch. The relevant requirements for mechanical and optical connector mateability are covered by the IEC 61754 and IEC 61755 series mechanical and optical interface standards. The relevant requirements for the operational performance of connector sets are covered by IEC 61753. These standards refer to standards of the IEC 61300 series. The standard gives manufacturers, customers and test laboratories certainty in the definition and serves as a reference in quality assurance. The responsible committee is DKE/UK 412.7 "LWL-Verbindungstechnik und passive optische Komponenten" ("Fibre optic interconnecting devices and passive optical components") of the DKE (German Commission for Electrical, Electronic and Information Technologies) at DIN and VDE.
