This part of IEC 61300 defines a test procedure to determine mechanical weaknesses and/or deterioration of fiber optic components that are subjected to repetitive or non-repetitive mechanical shocks. It simulates non-regular, repetitive or non-repetitive shocks that are likely to occur during normal operation or during transportation. This edition includes the following major changes with respect to the previous edition: a) inclusion of the "Terms and Definitions" clause, b) addition of a detailed description in the "Test Set-up" clause, c) addition of the "Test" subclause in the "Test Set-up" subclause, d) addition of the bibliography. The responsible committee is DKE/UK 412.7 "LWL-Verbindungstechnik und passive optische Komponenten" ("Fibre optic interconnecting devices and passive optical components") of the DKE (German Commission for Electrical, Electronic and Information Technologies) at DIN and VDE.
