This part of IEC 61300 evaluates the effect of loads which might occur when fibre optic devices are exposed to critical situations such as being stepped on or being run over by vehicle tyres. The standard provides manufacturers and test laboratories with security regarding the testing and serves as a reference for quality assurance. The standards for the performance (IEC 61753) and the CENELEC standards of the EN 50377 series refer to the standards of the IEC 61300 series. The responsible committee is Subcommittee DKE/UK 412.7 "LWL-Verbindungstechnik und passive optische Komponenten" ("Fibre optic interconnecting devices and passive optical components") of the DKE (German Commission for Electrical, Electronic and Information Technologies) at DIN and VDE.
