This standard provides rules for the composition of designations for the identification of signals and signal connections in electrotechnical and related fields and, in addition, recommendations for their representations. IEC 61175-1 deals with the aspects of the information content of such signals and signal connections, including identifiers for the electricity supply. As a rule the identifying marking is assigned to the signal or the signal data during the entire service life, from the beginning of the design stage to the end of use. The change of the transmission medium of a signal, for example as a result of a physical modification of a system, does not imply a change of the identification of this signal if its semantic meaning is preserved. Cables, terminals, lines and other hardware connections are not dealt with, as well as general rules on information representations in man-machine interfaces. The responsible committee is DKE/K 113 "Produktdatenmodelle, Informationsstrukturen, Dokumentation und graphische Symbole" ("Product data models, information structures, documentation and graphical symbols") of the DKE (German Commission for Electrical, Electronic and Information Technologies) at DIN and VDE.
This document replaces DIN EN 61175:2006-07 .
