Due to the manufacturing process and the physical properties of the products, ferrite cores usually exhibit some degree of damage, such as chipping, edge chipping, cracking, burrs and flaking. The permissible extent of such damage depends on the type, location and size of the defect, as well as the function of the core. The IEC 60424 International Standards Series serves to promote understanding between ferrite core manufacturers and customers regarding surface damage. This part of the standard series is a guide to permissible limits of visible damage to the core surface of RM-cores in accordance with the general specifications in DIN EN 60424-1. The responsible committee is DKE/K 625 "Magnetische Bauelemente und deren Komponenten" ("Magnetic devices and their components") of the DKE (German Commission for Electrical, Electronic and Information Technologies) at DIN and VDE.
