This European Standard for active glass break detectors installed inside buildings provides security levels 1 to 4 (see EN 50131-1) and uses environmental classes I to IV (see EN 50130-5). The purpose of a detector is to detect changes in the integrity condition of a glass pane (for example in doors, windows or housings), on which the transmitting and receiving unit(s) is/are directly installed, allowing intrusion into the protected area and to provide the required range of signals or messages to be used by the remaining part of the intrusion system. The detector may comprise functions additional to those required by this standard provided they do not impair proper operation of the required functions. Number and operating range of these signals or messages may be more extensive for systems intended for higher grades. This standard covers requirements and test methods for this type of detector only. Other detector types are covered by other documents designated as standard series prTS/EN 50131-2-x. This standard edition represents a consolidated version of the standard into which the following significant modifications of A1 have been incorporated. The responsible committee is DKE/UK 713.1 "Gefahrenmelde- und Überwachungsanlagen" ("Alarm systems and surveillance systems") of the DKE (German Commission for Electrical, Electronic and Information Technologies) at DIN and VDE.
