The EN 4644 series of standards specifies the common conditions for rectangular electrical modular connectors for receptacles and plugs with interchangeable modules and a continuous operating temperature of 175 °C (or 125 °C). The connectors described in this standard are suitable for use on board of commercial and military aircraft for panel and rack application under rough environmental conditions. The standard DIN EN 4644-002 specifies the general conditions for rectangular, modular, electrically free and fixed connectors with interchangeable inserts. This includes a description of the housing classes, operating conditions, operating characteristics, coding for the connectors and contact arrangements of the modules. The standard differs from DIN EN 4644-002:2012-08 as follows: a) normative references have been expanded; b) previous Clause 5 "Terms" became Clause 3, the numbering of the two subsequent clauses changed accordingly; c) housing class D has been included, including in Table 1, 7.2, Table 3; d) in Table 4 further product standards and housing class D have been added and existing entries revised; e) the figures in the standard have been partially revised; f) size 2 device plug connectors have been added in 9.3, the numbering of the following clauses and figures changed accordingly; g) Table 5 also applies to device plug housing size 2, Table 6 to disconnect housing size 2; h) in Table 6 the standard reference for the coding marking 100 to 201 has been changed; i) a contact arrangement for 17 contacts has been added to Figure 12; j) reference is made to the product standard for the contacts for mounting in Clause 14. The standards of the EN 4644 series are prepared by the ASD-STAN, Technical Section Electrotechnology, with the participation of German experts from DIN Standards Committee Aerospace (NL). AeroSpace and Defence Industries Association of Europe - Standardization (ASD-STAN) has been declared responsible by the European Committee for Standardization (CEN) for preparing European Standards (EN) for the field of aerospace. The responsible German standardization body is Working Committee NA 131-04-03 AA "Elektrische Verbindungselemente" ("Electrical Connectors") at DIN Standards Committee Aerospace (NL).
