Overview

DIN EN 419251-2 defines a Protection Profile for an authentication device. The Target of Evaluation considered in this Protection Profile corresponds to a hardware device (such as, for example, a smart card or USB token) allowing its legitimate holder to authenticate himself when accessing an on-line service or to guarantee the origin authentication of data sent by the User to a distant agent. This Protection Profile differs from the Protection Profile for core functionalities (Part 1 of this standard) particularly in that it additionally involves a trusted channel to certificate generation application. This standard has been prepared by Technical Committee CEN/TC 224 "Personal identification and related personal devices with secure element, systems, operations and privacy in a multi sectorial environment", the secretariat of which is held by AFNOR (France). The responsible German working committee is NA 043-01-17 AA "Karten und persönliche Identifikation" ("Cards and personal identification") at the Information Technology and selected IT Applications Standards Committee (NIA) at DIN.
