Standard DIN EN 3863 is intended to be part of the series of EN non-metallic materials standards for aerospace applications. The general organisation of this series is described in EN 4385. This standard is intended to become a level 3 document as defined in EN 4385. The standard has been prepared in accordance with EN 4386. It defines the requirements for the determination of the flatness of monolithic glass transparencies for aircraft applications. The method is designed to eliminate the effect of the glass deflecting under its own weight, thus eliminating false results. This document DIN EN 3863:2013 has been prepared by ASD-STAN, Technical Section "Non-metallic materials", with the participation of German experts of the Aerospace Standards Committee. The European Committee for Standardization (CEN) declared the Aerospace and Defence Industries Association of Europe (ASD-STAN) responsible for the preparation of European standards (EN) for the field of aerospace. The responsible German standardization committee is Working Committee NA 131-02-01 AA "Faserverstärkte Kunststoffe" ("Fibre-reinforced plastics") of the Aerospace Standards Committee at DIN.
