The DIN EN 3682 standard series describes the characteristics of rectangular electrical connectors, plug and receptacle, with interchangeable inserts for aerospace use. This family of connectors is derived from MIL-C-83527 with which it is intermateable and interchangeable. It is particularly for use on rack application in zones of severe environmental conditions on board aircraft, applying EN 2282. The operating temperature is 150 °C continuous. The new edition of Part 002 specifies the common conditions for plug and receptacle, rack to panel with interchangeable insulators. This includes, amongst others, operating conditions, contact arrangements and combinations of inserts, contacts, sealing plugs, tooling and assembly and wiring instructions. This standard differs from DIN EN 3682-002:2008-01 as follows: - requirements for quadrax contacts have been added to the standard; - clause 2 has been supplemented in accordance with the requirements; - in Table 1, the minimum outer cable diameter for size 8 contact cavities has been modified; - in Tables 3 and 4, a statement for position 00 has been added indicating that female and male keys are not assembled; - in 8.1, Table 5 and the figures have been supplemented by contact arrangements for quadrax contacts, therefore, the numbering of figures has been partly modified and the previous Figures 12 and 22 showing metallic inserts have been deleted; - in 8.2, the previous Table 6 including insert combinations has been replaced by a reference to TR 4679; - in clause 10, the reference standard has been changed to EN 4530-002; - clause 11 "Rear accessories" has been deleted, the numbering of the subsequent clauses has been changed accordingly. The EN 3682 standard series has been prepared by ASD-STAN, Technical Section Electrical, with the participation of German experts of the Aerospace Standards Committee. The European Committee for Standardization (CEN) declared the Aerospace and Defence Industries Association of Europe (ASD-STAN) responsible for the preparation of European standards (EN) for the field of aerospace. ASD became the associated body (ASB) of CEN by the agreement dated 1986-10-03. The responsible German Standardization Committee is Working Committee NA 131-04-03 AA "Elektrische Verbindungselemente" ("Electrical Connectors") of the Aerospace Standards Committee (NL) at DIN.
