This standard contains specifications meeting the essential requirements set out in Annex I of the EU Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC which apply to machines that are first placed on the European Economic Area (EEA) market, in order to facilitate proof of compliance with these requirements. Once this standard is cited in the Official Journal of the European Union, it is deemed a "harmonized" standard and thus, a manufacturer applying this standard may assume compliance with the requirements of the Machinery Directive ("presumption of conformity"). This European Standard specifies all requirements and/or measures to reduce the hazards and limit the risks on multi-blade cross-cut sawing machines (with minimum two saw unit) with integrated feed of the work-piece and manual loading and/or unloading fitted with a saw blade drive motor for each saw unit, hereinafter referred to as "machines", designed to cut solid wood, chipboard, fibreboard, plywood and also these materials where they are covered with plastic edging and/or plastic/light alloy laminates, when they are used as intended and under the conditions foreseen by the manufacturer including reasonably foreseeable misuse. This European Standard deals with all significant hazards, hazardous situations and events which are relevant to these machines as stated in clause 4. It does not deal with any hazards relating to the mechanical loading and/or unloading of the work-piece or which result from the combination of the machine with any other. This European Standard does not cover machines designed for climb cutting. The requirements of this document apply to all machines whatever their method of control, for example, electromechanical and/or electronic and/or pneumatic. This European Standard is not applicable to multi-blade cross-cut sawing machines with integrated feed of the workpiece and manual loading and/or unloading manufactured before the date of its publication as EN. Machines covered by this document are listed under 1.3 of Annex IV of the Machinery Directive. This standard contains the German version of EN 1870-15:2012 which has been prepared by Technical Committee CEN/TC 142 "Woodworking machines - Safety" of the European Committee for Standardization (CEN). This standard differs from DIN EN 1870-15:2010-07 as follows: a) clause 2 "Normative references" has been updated to new editions of the cited standards; b) in 5.2 "Controls" the design requirements for control circuits in certain categories have been replaced by specifications for performance levels; c) new subclause 5.2.1.2 "Use of protective devices" with requirements for the use of protective devices; d) further requirements have been specified in 5.2.3 "Starting", 5.2.4 "Normal stopping" and 5.2.5 "Emergency stop"; e) addition of a description of an impact test method for plastic guards in normative Annex E, unless they are in accordance with 5.3.2 "Risk of break-up during operation"; f) 5.3.4 "Braking" has been completely revised and braking tests have been moved to normative Annex D; g) 5.3.7 "Prevention of access to moving parts" has been completely revised; h) 5.4.3 "Emission of chips and dust" has been revised to include further requirements; i) 5.4.13 "Isolation" has been revised to include further requirements; j) 6.3 "Marking" has been revised to include further requirements; k) informative Annex ZA on the relationship between this European Standard and the Essential Requirements of Machinery Directive 98/37/EC has been deleted; l) the former informative Annex ZB on the relationship between this European Standard and the Essential Requirements of Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC is now Annex ZA; m) the Bibliography has been updated. The national interests during the preparation are represented by Committee NA 060-06-01 AA "Sicherheit" ("Safety") of Technical Section "Holzbearbeitungsmaschinen" ("Woodworking machines") of the Mechanical Engineering Standards Committee (NAM) at DIN. Representatives of manufacturers and users of multi-blade cross-cut sawing machines with integrated feed of the workpiece and manual loading and/or unloading, and of the employers' liability insurance associations contributed to this standard.
This document replaces DIN EN 1870-15:2010-07 .
