This European Standard specifies a method to assess possible changes of natural stones under the effect of sudden changes in temperature (thermal shock). After drying at a specified temperature for a week, the specimens are subjected to successive cycles, each formed by drying at a specified temperature followed by immediate immersion in water at a specified temperature. The potential strength loss is measured according to EN 12372 on reference specimens and exposed specimens as well as according to EN 14146 or EN 14579 and EN 1936 on specimens before and after the thermal cycles. The test standard is directed at suppliers and producers of natural stone as well as independent test laboratories. It is referred to in the product standards DIN EN 1469, DIN EN 12057 and DIN EN 12058 and thus supports the fulfilment of the essential requirements of the Construction Products Directive. The committee responsible for this standard is NA 062-03-11 GA "Gemeinschaftsarbeitsausschuss NMP/NABau: Naturwerkstein; Anforderungen, Prüfverfahren und Terminologie" ("Joint working committee NMP/NABau: Natural stone; Requirements, test methods and terminology") at DIN.
This document replaces DIN EN 14066:2003-08 .
