Overview

The European Standard EN 13230 "Railway applications - Track - Concrete sleepers and bearers" consists of the following parts - Part 1: General requirements - Part 2: Prestressed monoblock sleepers - Part 3: Twin-block reinforced sleepers - Part 4: Prestressed bearers for switches and crossings - Part 5: Special elements - Part 6: Design and is used as a technical basis for transaction between corresponding parties (purchaser - supplier). Part 4 of the EN 13230 series of standards defines the specific requirements relating to prestressed bearers for switches and crossings. These are additional requirements to EN 13230-1 that are necessary to have a complete standard dealing with prestressed bearers for switches and crossings. The document specifies the test arrangements and test procedures to be used, as well as the associated acceptance criteria and design approval tests. This part contains the additional technical criteria and control procedures as well as specific tolerance limits related to manufacturing and testing prestressed bearers for switches and crossings with a maximum length of 8,5 m. Bearers longer than 8,5 m are designated as special elements and shall comply with EN 13230-5. This document (EN 13230-4) has been prepared by Technical Committee CEN/TC 256 "Railway applications", the secretariat of which is held by DIN (Germany). The responsible German committee Subcommittee NA 087-00-01-03 UA "Gleis- und Weichenschwellen" ("Sleepers and bearers") at DIN Standards Committee Railway (FSF). This standard differs from DIN EN 13230-4:2009-10 as follows: The term "design bending moment" has been replaced by "characteristic bending moment" and "test bending moment".
