DIN EN 10264-1: The general requirements for wire for ropes are specified. Additional requirements are given in other parts of this standard series which are specific to each category of wire. The standard covers dimensional tolerances, mechanical characteristics, requirements relating to the chemical composition of the steel wire and requirements for coating. DIN EN 10264-2: This part of the standard series specifies requirements for cold drawn non-alloy steel wire used for the manufacture of - ropes for general applications and lifts - ropes for applications for which there is no specific European Standard. The standard does not apply to steel wire taken from manufactured ropes. DIN EN 10264-2 specifies the following for cold drawn non-alloy steel wire for ropes for general applications: - dimensional tolerances - mechanical characteristics - requirements relating to the chemical composition of the steel wire - requirements for coatings. In addition to the requirements the requirements of DIN EN 10264-1 also apply. DIN EN 10264-3: Subject of standardization is round and shaped non-alloyed steel wire for use in the manufacture of ropes for mine hoisting, man-riding haulage, cableways for the transportation of passengers and other high-duty applications. Cases for high-duty applications are when high or significantly varying tensions affect the rope during use. The standard refers to round wires and three types of shaped wire: full lock (Z), half lock (H) and trapezoidal (T). In addition to the requirements of this part of the standard series, the requirements of DIN EN 10264-1 apply. DIN EN 10264-3 does not apply to steel wire taken from manufactured ropes. The following is specified for cold drawn non-alloyed steel wire for ropes for high-duty applications: - dimensional tolerances - mechanical characteristics - requirements relating to the chemical composition of the steel wire - requirements for coatings. DIN EN 10264-4: This standard specifies the characteristics of stainless steel wire for the manufacture of ropes that are exposed to corrosion and in some cases to a moderate temperature. It specifies the following for stainless steel wire for ropes: - dimensional tolerances - mechanical characteristics - requirements relating to the chemical composition of the steel wire - requirements for coatings. The revisions of the European Standard series EN 10264 have been prepared by ECISS/TC 106 "Wire rod and wires", the secretariat of which is held by AFNOR (France). The responsible national Mirror Committee is Working Committee NA 099-00-01 AA "Stahldraht" ("Steel wire") at NAD.
