Overview

This standard specifies a method for the determination of nominal ring-on-ring flexural strength using the double-ring flexural test of advanced monolithic technical ceramics at room temperature. The specified method is applicable to materials with a grain size of less than 100 µm. It is intended for application in the area of material development, material characterization and quality control as well as for the extraction of constructive characteristics. The ring-on-ring flexural strength is determined by this method through the linear-elastic flex of a round, disk-shaped, thin sheet, assuming that the tested material is homogeneous, elastic and isotropic and shows linear stress-strain behaviour. The standard has been prepared by Working Committee NA 062-02-91 AA "Hochleistungskeramik - Monolithische Werkstoffe" ("Advanced technical ceramics - Monolithic materials") at NMP.
