This standard applies for powder jet handpieces and their corresponding application of powders which are used in dentistry on the patient for removal of deposits, discolourations and plaque. It also applies for powder jet handpieces and their powders used in dentistry for air-supported abrasion, for minimal invasive cavity preparation, for preparation of glued surfaces and for removal of extra-oral cement. Independent of its design, this standard specifies requirements, test methods, manufacturer specifications, marking and packaging. This standard does not apply for prophylaxis handpieces, air-operated, pneumatic or electric dental scalers or multifunctional handpieces (syringes).
