Short description
1.1 This guide covers training and qualification of space operations personnel with safety-critical responsibilities during launch and reentry phases of flight. 1.2 This guide will assist in identifying safety-critical positions, determining level of training required, and developing a system for qualifying personnel to perform safety-critical operations duties. 1.3 In this guide, a wide range of operational positions will be addressed, including test, launch, and flight controllers; mission decision authorities; personnel handling safety-critical flight hardware; aerospace ground systems; facilities; and crew onboard human spaceflight missions. 1.4 Though not specifically addressed within this scope, many of these practices may be useful in informing training and qualification of on-orbit operations personnel, as well as operators performing functions critical to mission success. 1.5 This standard does not purport to address all of the safety concerns, if any, associated with its use. It is the responsibility of the user of this standard to establish appropriate safety, health, and environmental practices and determine the applicability of regulatory limitations prior to use. 1.6 This international standard was developed in accordance with internationally recognized principles on standardization established in the Decision on Principles for the Development of International Standards, Guides and Recommendations issued by the World Trade Organization Technical Barriers to Trade (TBT) Committee.
