Short description
1.1 This practice covers the determination of roads and parking lots pavement condition through visual surveys using the pavement condition index (PCI) method of quantifying pavement condition. 1.2 The PCI represents the collective judgement of pavement maintenance engineers and is an indirect measurement of pavement structural integrity (not capacity) and pavement functional condition indicators such as roughness. The PCI is not intended to replace the direct measurement of ride, structural capacity, or friction. 1.3 The PCI for roads and parking lots was developed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers ( 1 , 2 ) . 2 It is further verified and adopted by DOD and APWA. 1.4 The values stated in SI units are to be regarded as standard. The values given in parentheses are mathematical conversions to inch-pound units that are provided for information only and are not considered standard. 1.5 This standard does not purport to address all of the safety concerns, if any, associated with its use. It is the responsibility of the user of this standard to establish appropriate safety, health, and environmental practices and determine the applicability of regulatory limitations prior to use. Specific precautionary statements are given in Section 6 . 1.6 This international standard was developed in accordance with internationally recognized principles on standardization established in the Decision on Principles for the Development of International Standards, Guides and Recommendations issued by the World Trade Organization Technical Barriers to Trade (TBT) Committee.
