This prestandard gives the procedures and rules for the extended application of results from tests carried out according to the test methods described in EN 50399 and/or EN 60332-1-2. Rules and a specific EXAP procedure have been developed based on the use of safety margins and a cable and line parameter derived from the comprehensive CEMAC tests and applicable to the most common basic types of power cables used in the European market. In addition, corresponding rules have been developed, as well as a general EXAP procedure applicable to all other power cables, based on the statistical treatment of the test results actually obtained for a given family of cables. The EXAP rules described in the prestandard apply to test results obtained in accordance with EN 50399 for classification into classes B2ca, Cca and Dca and the additional classes s1, s2 and s3 applicable to smoke emission and burning drop/fall-off for test results obtained in accordance with EN 60332-1-2 for classification into classes B2ca, Cca and Dca and Eca and for test results obtained in accordance with EN 61034-2 for classification into classes s1a and s1b. The rules apply to round and non-round electric cables, provided they fall within the scope of the respective test method. The responsible committee is DKE/K 411 "Starkstromkabel und isolierte Starkstromleitungen" ("Cables, wires and flexible cords for power installations") of the DKE (German Commission for Electrical, Electronic and Information Technologies) at DIN and VDE.
