Short description
Technical progress and the increasing prevalence of unmanned aircraft systems (UAS, drones) open up new possibilities for the monitoring of dispersal episodes or in the event of an emergency. In contrast with radiosondes, these techniques can investigate not only vertical but also horizontal fields of meteorological variables and of air contaminants. This standard discusses a variety of measurement techniques that form the topic of the series of standards VDI 3786 and can be utilised in UAS. Furthermore, techniques are described that are particular to aircraft systems. The special features of the measuring device carriers and the resulting necessary modifications of the sensors are discussed in detail. Special attention is paid to determining horizontal fields and vertical structures through different flight patterns and to the interpretation options, by reference to the series of standards VDI 3783 and VDI 3787.
