Short description
In 2017, about 6.61 million tonnes of waste were treated in Germany in physico-chemical treatment plants (CPB plants), of which 4.65 million tonnes were hazardous waste. The treated hazardous waste originates, for example, from inorganic and organic chemical processes and from chemical surface treatment and coating of metals and other materials. In CPB plants, within the scope of this standard, waste is usually treated that is of liquid to sludgy consistency and has a relatively high water content. By applying the standard, the following objectives, among others, can be achieved: pollutant destruction and pollutant reduction by chemical conversion of certain constituents in order to reduce the hazard potential; separation of mixtures of substances by means of chemical-physical methods; pre-treatment of waste for subsequent recovery; reduction of the mass of waste to be landfilled; inertisation of this waste; prevention of a transfer of pollutants from waste to other media.
