This part of EN 50598 specifies the principles of environmentally conscious product design, of the evaluation of ecodesign performance and communication of potential environmental impacts power drive systems and motor starters for applications in the power range of 0,12 kW up to 1 000 kW. The preparation of declarations for the potential environmental impacts of a motor system or the publication of environmental claims to its components in an environmental declaration or a so-called footprint is outcome of an environmental conscious design process. This requires the identification, measurement and reporting of the particular effects of various process steps or usage scenario within the entire product life cycle. The aim of the standard which is based on the principles described in DIN EN 62430 is the reduction of potential environmental impacts for the components of a motor system according to the definition of Part 1 of the EN 50598 series. In detail this European Standard the content for two different environmental declaration types: - The basic version, an environmental declaration type II, with basic data and qualitative statements on eco design, as defined in EN ISO 14021; - the full version, an environmental declaration type III as defined in EN ISO 14025, including quantitatively evaluated potential environmental impacts. For that product category rules [PCR] for motor system components are included to assure an harmonized life cycle assessment methodology. The responsible committee is DKE/K 226 "Ausrüstung von Starkstromgeräten und -anlagen mit elektronischen Betriebsmitteln" ("Equipment of power circuit devices and power installations with electronic equipment") of the DKE (German Commission for Electrical, Electronic and Information Technologies) at DIN and VDE.
