The EN 4165 series of standards describes rectangular electrical connectors of modular design for an operating temperature of 175 °C, constant, for aerospace applications. This European standard specifies the general characteristics, the conditions for qualification, acceptance and quality assurance, as well as the test programs and groups for rectangular connectors with one or multiple removable modules, intended for use in a temperature range from −55 °C to 175 °C continuous. This family of connectors is particularly suitable for aeronautic use in zones of severe environmental conditions on board aircraft, applying EN 2282. The maximum in-service temperature can be limited by maximum temperature of contacts. The standard differs from DIN EN 4165-001:2010-07 as follows: a) the normative references have been revised; b) in Clause 4, subclauses on variants of housings and coupling mechanisms as well as for the module design types have been included for the two connector types, subclause guide mechanism has been extended by a subclause for the push-pull locking mechanism, the subclause material has been revised and the subclause design supplemented in accordance with the additionally included specified coupling mechanisms; c) in Clause 6, Figure 1 and Figure 2 for coupled connectors have been added to replace the previous Figure 1, Table 1 has been expanded to include columns for the chambers with the non-interchangeability E and F, images of individual modules and the module chambers with the non-interchangeability E and F have been added and the previous images have been revised; the numbering of the figures and tables in the document has changed accordingly; d) contact arrangements for various other modules have been included in Clause 8; e) some of the tests in Clause 9 have been changed, expanded and/or specified, the table on resistance to liquids has been revised with reference to EN 3909; f) the mass specifications in the tables have been omitted in Clause 10 for tool testing; g) Clause 12 Qualification has been expanded, subclauses for the qualification of housings and modules made of composite material or metal as well as with push-pull locking mechanism and new module arrangements have been included and additional test groups have been introduced; h) the time period has been changed to 36 months and the test groups have been revised for the maintenance of qualification in Clause 13; i) the requirements for marking in 15.2 have been included in the standard. The AC of 2016 replaced Table 1, Figure 9, Figure 15, Figure 16, Figure 17, Figure 18, Figure 19 and Figure 21, replaced Figure 31 together with the legend and deleted Class A in the legends of Figure 10, Figure 11 and Figure 12. The beginning and end of the text elements changed by the Corrigendum are indicated by change marks. The standards of the EN 4165 series are prepared by the ASD-STAN, Technical Section Electrotechnology, with the participation of German experts from DIN Standards Committee Aerospace (NL). AeroSpace and Defence Industries Association of Europe - Standardization (ASD-STAN) has been declared responsible by the European Committee for Standardization (CEN) for preparing European Standards (EN) for the field of aerospace.
