Overview

This standard specifies methods to prepare a GHG balance for all persons involved in the product chain of biofuels and bioliquids, taking into account all aspects relevant for balancing. In this context the "Directive 2009/28/EC on the promotion of the use of energy from renewable sources and amending and subsequently repealing Directives 2001/77/EC and 2003/30/EC" (Renewable Energy Directive (RED)) shall be followed. The provisions of the RED shall be explained and further discussed whenever appropriate. Where applicable, the standard specifies the use of optional or specific reference values via various detail steps of the entire chain to specific sections of the chain to individual steps of a section. The calculation methods take into account ISO 14040 and ISO 14044 for life cycle assessment.
