This document (EN 13398:2009) has been prepared by Technical Committee CEN/TC 336 "Bituminous binders", the secretariat of which is held by AFNOR (France). The responsible German Committee is Joint Committee NA 062-03-32 GA "Bitumen; Prüfverfahren und Anforderungen für die Bindemittel" ("Bitumen; test methods and specifications of binders") of the Materials Testing Standards Committee (NMP) and of the Building and Civil Engineering Standards Committee (NABau). This document specifies a method for the determination of the elastic recovery of bituminous binders in a ductilometer at a given test temperature (typically 25 °C or 10 °C, however, other temperatures can be used). It is especially applicable to bituminous binders modified with thermoplastic elastomers, but can also be used with other bituminous binders which generate only small recovery. With respect to DIN EN 13398:2004-03, the following changes have been made: a) the scope has been extended by the possibility that the test temperature can be freely selected; b) 5.1 "mould" has been renamed "specimen moulding equipment", and has been technically revised (for instance figures 1 and 3 have been deleted and figure 2 has been reworked; c) clause 7 "Procedure" has been extended; d) in clause 8, formula (1) has been adapted regarding the possibility that the sample breaks before reaching 200 mm; e) the standard has been editorially revised.
