This standard specifies relevant requirements of Annex I of the EU Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC for machines placed on the market for the first time in the European Economic Area (EEA) in order to facilitate the demonstration of conformity with these requirements. This European Standard deals with all significant hazards, hazardous situations and events relevant to the design and construction of internal mixers for production and laboratory applications, when the machines are used as intended and under the conditions of misuse which are reasonably foreseeable by the manufacturer. An internal mixer begins at the feeding door and ends at the discharge opening. Internal mixers usually do not produce explosive atmospheres. Where materials are processed, which may cause an explosive atmosphere, the Directive 94/9/EU on the Equipment and protective systems intended for use in potentially explosive atmospheres (ATEX) should be applied. Explosion hazards are not dealt with in this document. The safety requirements for the design of exhaust systems and additional equipment are not covered. The safety requirements for the interaction between internal mixers and auxiliary equipment are dealt with. This standard contains the German version of prEN 12013:2015 prepared by Technical Committee CEN/TC 145 "Plastics and rubber machines" of the European Committee for Standardization (CEN). The standard differs from DIN EN 12013:2009-09 as follows: a) the structure has been amended; b) the list of significant hazards has been transferred to an informative annex; c) it has been clarified that internal mixers for production and for laboratory applications are dealt with; d) tandem mixers (a combination of two internal mixers) have been added; e) technical developments in safeguards have been taken into account; f) revised type-A and type-B standards have been taken into account; g) the performance levels of safety-related parts of control systems have been specified in accordance with EN ISO 13849-1; h) a normative annex on noise measurement and a declaration for laboratory internal mixers has been added. National interests in the preparation of the standard are represented by Working Committee NA 060-14-07 AA "Innenmischer" ("Internal mixers") at Technical Section "Plastics and rubber machines" at DIN Standards Committee Mechanical Engineering (NAM). Representatives of the manufacturers and users of internal mixers as well as the employers' liability insurance associations were involved in the preparation.
