Light signal systems with up to five colours are used for railway signal lights. These colours are red, yellow, green, white and blue. Selection of the colours corresponds with the recommendations of the Commission Internationale de l'Éclairage (CIE) (International Commission on Illumination) for a light signal system with five colours. This document (DIN 6163-4) specifies colour limits of the colours red, yellow, green, blue and white A and white B for signal lights used in rail operations. These colour limits are defined following the specifications of CIE S 004/E-2001. DIN EN 12368 applies for signal lights in the area of crossings between rail traffic and road traffic. The Committee responsible for this standard is NA 058-00-09 GA "Gemeinschaftsausschuss FNL/FNF: Lichttechnische Eigenschaften von Signallichtern im Verkehr" ("Joint Working Committee FNL/FNF: Photometric properties of signal lights in traffic") at DIN.
